Window Treatments 101: Enhancing Style and Functionality

• Curtains and Drapes - Classic for a reason, they add a touch of elegance to any room. While the terms are often used interchangeably, there are some differences: Curtains: Usually made of much lighter fabrics and are typically less formal. They come in a variety of lengths and styles and can be paired with other treatments for a layered look. Drapes: Made from much heavier and more expensive fabrics, drapes often come with linings that block out light (often called blackout), they also provide extra insulation. They are perfect for creating a dramatic, sophisticated look.
• Blinds -  Hard window treatments made of slats that can be tilted to control light and privacy. Vertical Blinds: Ideal for large windows and sliding doors, these blinds add height and a modern touch to a room. Horizontal Blinds: Perfect for smaller windows, these can be made from wood, faux wood, aluminium, or vinyl.
• Shades -  Can be rolled up or down and are soft window treatments, often made from continuous pieces of fabric. Roller Shades: Simple but yet functional, they come in various materials, including blackout options for that all important light control. Roman Shades: These shades fold into themselves as they are lifted, offering a clean and classic look. They can be tricky to manurer so its essential for correct fitting. Cellular Shades: Although not as commonly used, they are known for their energy efficiency, these shades trap air in their cells, providing insulation.
• Shutters are sturdy window treatments that add a timeless appeal to any space. They are becoming increasingly popular by offering a costly feel to a living space. When fitted with low profile handles, they allow for an extremely close fit to the window frame.
